If you are a high school sophomore or junior selected to participate in the Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy (SLCDA), you will spend six days learning how to lead from those who define the virtues of character and ethical decision-making: United States Marines.
Students are selected from a variety of backgrounds and offered the opportunity to attend the week-long Academy held aboard Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA. Over the course of the week, we introduce selectees to the Marine Corps mission, core values, military culture and leadership principles. They will be challenged to step outside of their comfort zone and to strengthen their confidence and leadership skills. They will be exposed to the teachings and lessons of many Marine Corps leaders and be surrounded by a diverse range of students. Physical training and scenario-based reaction courses will be emphasized throughout the week. Students will graduate the program more confident and equipped to improve the lives of those around them and will be postured to become better leaders at home, school and communities.
Students will be selected for the program based on the whole person concept by a board of Marines. Nominees must demonstrate a desire to lead and develop oneself. Application information will be reviewed and validated for selection following the completion of the selection board. The United States Marine Corps reserves the right to revoke selection at their discretion if the application information provided cannot be validated.
